For which purposes is a Binder CO2 incubator suitable?

When we talk about a Binder CO2 incubator, we are talking about a specialised form of gassing incubator. They have a completely enclosed interior for the ideal simulation of predefined parameters. For example, the following can be set:

  • theCO2 level
  • the temperature
  • the air humidity

These are precisely selected and kept constant in the units. Consequently, it is elementary that the Binder CO2 incubators are built to a high quality and equipped with exact function settings. If these requirements are met, the units can be used in various fields of application.

Typically, these gassing incubators are used when in vitro cultivation of cell and tissue cultures in a lifelike atmosphere is required.

How do the Binder CO2 inubators work?

Binder CO2 incubators are equipped with a completely sealed interior so that the external atmosphere cannot influence the growth process of your samples, cells and tissues. In addition, most models have a glass door that allows a view of the contents and makes the tracking and documentation of the incubation particularly transparent - without increasing the risk of contamination.

In CO2 incubators, the incoming air must first pass through a sterile filter before it can spread inside the chamber. The inserts at different heights provide more incubation space without sacrificing homogeneity throughout the interior - so all samples receive constant climate and humidity conditions under CO2 supply.   • Gas-tight and split gas aperture: To keep theCO2 in place, Binder incubators are designed with a high gas density. Models like the CB 160 also have a split gas aperture so you can observe your samples without changing the environment.
  • O2 control: The innovative O2 control on many models (such as the CB 60 and CB 160 versions) is in the control ranges 0.2 to 20 % or even 10 to 95 %. This makes it possible to recreate many conditions that would not be possible with units from other manufacturers.
  • Controller with timer function: Check the incubation conditions and the process progress easily via an internal data logger (for example, on the CB 170 model) on the intuitive touchscreen controller. Intervals can be set using the timer function.
  • Preheating chamber technology: With the principle of APT.line technology, the Binder incubators are heated via a modern air circulation system. The heated air enters the inner chamber horizontally via openings in the side walls. This creates a homogeneous air distribution and ensures fast recovery times.
  • Modern interfaces: In terms of interfaces, you are spoilt for choice withCO2 binder units. In addition to a USB port, Ethernet contacts and a potential-free alarm contact are also installed.
  • Fault diagnosis system: The integrated fault diagnosis system helps you monitor your samples and ensures that no environmental changes have occurred in the BinderCO2 incubator. It has a visual and audible alarm and can be found, for example, in the CB 160 and CB 220 models.
  • CO2 Fail Safe: This additional safeguard can be found in all BinderCO2 incubators and ensures that cell cultures are protected from an inappropriate pH value.

Choose the right BinderCO2 incubator for your lab.

Not every project is the same - which is why it is also important that not every gassing incubator is the same. Depending on your requirements and needs, you should therefore consider which functions and features to focus on to find the right BinderCO2 incubator. In particular, the following selection criteria are important:

  • Temperature: The minimum and maximum temperatures inside the unit must meet the needs of your cell cultures and samples. Choose an instrument that can easily cover all these working temperature ranges. Depending on the model, theCO2 binder incubators cover a wide range from +6°C to +60°C.
  • CO2 content: The achievableCO2 content naturally also plays an important role. All BinderCO2 incubators can be varied between 0% and 20%, which means that gassing-free experiments are also possible.
  • Humidification: Humidification specifies the humidity range inside the incubator. This humidity management protects the cell cultures from drying out, which is why it counts as a decisive factor when purchasing. BinderCO2 incubators can achieve a humidity range between 90% RH and 95% RH.
  • Doors: When it comes to doors, attention should be paid to two different aspects: on the one hand, the number, and on the other hand, the type of construction including the choice of material. In addition to at least one external door, several internal doors can support the independent treatment of several samples, which is why the Binder incubators have six of these doors. For the material, you should opt for stainless steel or other insensitive and pathogen-repellent alloys.
  • Decontamination: The risk of contamination is also reduced by rounded edges and corners for easier disinfection and by avoiding fans and gaps in the interior. These construction features should be kept in mind when purchasing, otherwise contamination will quickly affect sample quality. Binder'sCO2 incubators also offer effective hot air sterilisation.
  • Surfaces: Make sure that surfaces are as clear, low-maintenance and easy to clean as possible. Because if not, you will have to put more work into your new incubator than you should. Binder models focus on a minimum of possible contamination surfaces here.
  • Vibration: The more powerful the incubator, the higher the risk of disturbing vibrations. It is best to select a model that is particularly low in vibration and does not unnecessarily stress your cell cultures.
  • O2 control: Another important point is the O2 gassing. This also influences the possible areas of application and incubations. In the case of binders, O2 control is used in the control range 0.2 to 20 % or even 10 to 95 %.
