Hellma Compact Cell 178.710-QS, 50 mm SD/8.5 mm ZH
The Hellma Compact Cell 178.710-QS, 50 mm SD/8.5 mm ZH has been specially developed for precise flow and absorption measurements. It features high-quality quartz glass, manufacturing processes that have been tried and tested over many years, and a sophisticated design that enables measurements in a spectral range from 200 nm to 2500 nm. In addition, it benefits from robust M6 screw connections and durable FEP tubing, ensuring uniform sample flow and reliable analysis. Compared to other cuvettes on the market, this design ensures impressively consistent measurement quality thanks to its stable quartz glass and high accuracy in terms of layer thickness and center height. High-quality construction for accurate results
The superior workmanship of the compact cuvette ensures clear light transmission in the relevant wavelength range, enabling reproducible and accurate measurements. Since quartz glass (QS) is exceptionally resistant to chemical attack and thermal influences, users benefit from a long service life and consistent measurement accuracy. The cuvette is particularly suitable for applications requiring a stable flow with precise layer thickness, such as in biotechnology laboratories, environmental analysis, or pharmaceutical research. Key features and technical data at a glance:
• Type: 178.710-QS
• Material: Quartz glass (200 nm – 2500 nm)
• Layer thickness: 50 mm
• Center height: 8.5 mm
• Aperture diameter: 3 mm
• Volume: 370 µl
• Connections: Two screw connections M 6 x 1 In addition to these core data, the cuvette has two observation windows for transmission, ensuring optimal flow and absorption measurement. The compact format (35 x 12.5 x 52.5 mm) allows for easy handling and flexible use even in smaller measuring rooms. The supplied FEP tubes (outer diameter 1.9 mm, inner diameter 1.1 mm) also provide reliable and chemically resistant delivery of the sample liquid. Since the FEP material (fluoroethylene propylene) used is particularly inert, it can easily come into contact with aggressive or sensitive substances without distorting the measurements. The two M6 screw connections can be quickly attached and ensure a tight connection. Together with the selected quartz glass, this design offers maximum process stability. Measurements can thus be carried out in real time, enabling continuous monitoring of the sample. In addition, the quartz glass is manufactured in accordance with current quality standards and is suitable for a wide range of applications. In laboratory practice, standards such as DIN and CE are often important. Hellma products generally meet the respective requirements, so users can rely on certified quality.
Specific applications
- Analysis of proteins in biotechnology laboratories: The cuvette allows precise measurements of protein solutions in the UV range (e.g., at 280 nm) to determine concentrations.
- Photometric determinations in environmental analysis: When monitoring drinking or surface water, the cuvette can be used to determine the nitrate content or other absorption parameters.
- Pharmaceutical development: In R&D laboratories, it is used for precise absorption measurement of active ingredients or excipients and ensures high reproducibility.
- Quality assurance in industrial processes: Continuous flow measurements during product manufacturing enable real-time control of composition and purity.
Thanks to its remarkable resistance to aggressive chemicals, this cuvette can be used to safely handle not only classic waters and buffer solutions, but also corrosive substances such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, or alkalis. The volume of 370 µl is well chosen: while it is sufficient for reliable measurements, it keeps sample consumption to a minimum.
FAQs
What is the best way to clean the cuvette?
It is best to use a mild, non-abrasive cleaning solution and then rinse thoroughly with deionized water. A final rinse with appropriate organic solvents is also advisable if residues are suspected.
What is the significance of the 50 mm layer thickness?
The greater layer thickness allows the light to travel a longer distance through the sample, which leads to higher sensitivity in the absorption measurements for low-concentration samples.
Can I use the cuvette for multiple types of solutions?
Yes, thanks to its quartz glass construction, it is very resistant to various chemicals. At the same time, FEP tubing offers reliable resistance to corrosive substances.
Is temperature control possible?
Typically, the cuvette can be used in a temperature-controlled cuvette holder. This allows samples to be brought to the exact desired temperature, which is particularly relevant in biotechnological and pharmaceutical applications.
How often should the seals be replaced?
This depends on the application and the substances used. In case of intensive use or particularly aggressive media, it is recommended to check the seals at regular intervals and replace them if they show signs of wear.
Conclusion
The compact cuvette with robust quartz glass and integrated flow concept offers reliable, reproducible measurement results in a wide spectrum from 200 nm to 2500 nm. Thanks to its optimized connection technology, practical layer thickness, and chemically resistant FEP tubing system, it is equally suitable for precise absorption measurements and continuous flow analyses. In addition to its excellent stability and measurement accuracy, it also scores points for its durability, thus creating real added value for laboratories in biotechnology, the pharmaceutical industry, and environmental analysis.
