IKA flours in the MedSolut portfolio

Not all grinders are the same, so IKA's product range includes different types of grinders, each suitable for a different purpose. There are also different functions and specifications. In addition to universal mills, you will also find analytical mills, batch mills and micro-fine mills from the market leader.

Universal mills

Both the IKA MultiDrive Basic model and the IKA MultiDrive Control model can be counted among the universally applicable versions. They are suitable for various applications from preliminary to fine comminution and can process hard as well as soft or fibrous samples. They are therefore often found in the food, biomass, pharmaceutical, medical and biological sectors.

Analytical mills

The IKA A 10 Basic and IKA A 11 Basic analytical mills are batch mills for two grinding processes. This means that they can process hard, brittle and embrittled grinding media up to a Mohs. Size 6 using the stainless steel beater, while the cutting blade is suitable for soft and fibrous materials. In addition, there are optimally adjustable rotational speeds.

Batch mill

Third in the group is the IKA batch mill Tube Mill Control, which works with disposable grinding cups. This prevents cross-contamination and eliminates the need for cleaning. Seeds in particular (such as maize or wheat) can be easily ground with the batch mill. This makes it an absolutely high-performance partner for the research, quality assurance and food industries.

Microfine grinders

The IKA MF 10 Basic model, on the other hand, can be described as a micro fine grinder or table grinder, with a continuous speed range between 3,000 and 6,500 rpm.

A powerful drive and the choice of two different grinding heads enable precise work, and there is also compatibility with dry ice. IKA microfine grinders are commonly found in laboratories of all kinds.

Grinding with the IKA mill in the laboratory

Speaking of laboratories of all kinds, two different processes can be distinguished when grinding with an IKA mill: The wet grinding process and the dry grinding process. Depending on which process is preferred in your area of application, a different IKA mill is recommended. The difference in principle can be explained as follows:

  • Wet grinding: Wet grinding prevents the formation of dust by incorporating the resulting fine fraction directly into the suspension. This not only reduces losses, but also keeps the completely ground substances in the system. Therefore, wet grinding is mainly used when high-value organic substances or toxic substances have to be processed in a mill. In addition, an IKA disperser is usually used to ensure mixing. This is especially true in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Dry milling: This is contrasted with dry milling, which is a safe and efficient method of reducing and homogenising materials. In contrast to wet grinding, this process is faster and cheaper, as neither mixing with a liquid nor drying takes place. Dry mills from IKA work according to the rotor-stator principle.

Equipment of the IKA mills

With an IKA mill, you can not only rely on modern technology and a high degree of practicality, but also benefit from many features. We have briefly summarised some of the important features here:

Basic & Control

The specification of IKA mills begins with the distinction between Basic and Control models. Basic is the name of a model series that has mixing and grinding functions and is an ideal addition to the laboratory.

The range of applications is somewhat broader with Control models: These also have a dispersing vessel and a disposable tube. In the case of the IKA MultiDrive mill, both model variants are equally equipped with control and documentation via USB interface.

Technical equipment

IKA is one of the market leaders in the manufacture of laboratory mills, which is not least due to its excellent technical equipment. This top manufacturer offers the following technical features, among others:

  • Variable speeds between 3,000 and 30,000 rpm
  • TFT display
  • Timer function
  • Choice of different programmes
  • Low energy consumption
  • Reproducible test results due to adjustable test conditions
