Dispersion

Dispersion involves the mixing of different substances that hardly or only slightly combine with each other. Conventional processes include the distribution of solids in liquids (production of a suspension - suspension) or the mixing of two immiscible liquids(production of an emulsion - emulsification) as well as homogenization. In order to achieve efficient dispersion, the substances to be dispersed (disperse phase) are first distributed as well as possible in the matrix phase (continuous phase). To do this, they should be wetted beforehand so that the interfacial tension is reduced. The substances to be dispersed are then crushed into very small particles and then stabilized in this dispersion state. This gives you ideal results.

How a disperser works in the laboratory

Laboratory dispersers, such as the IKA disperser Ultra Turrax support the mixing of the different substances by introducing shear energy into the mixture to be dispersed. This can be achieved either by friction of the ground material between two surfaces or by introducing impact forces through rapidly rotating disks. Homogenizers based on the rotor-stator principle are used most frequently. Here, the mixture is transported through the toothed rotor into the dispersing tool, rotated in a radial direction and then pressed through the stator slots. The resulting turbulent flows lead to a very effective and fast result.

Dispersing device - areas of application and tasks

Dispersing processes are of great importance in many industrial sectors. One example of this is the production of paints and varnishes: Here, pigments must be incorporated with sufficient fineness. Other sectors in which a laboratory disperser is used include the cosmetics industry for the production of creams and lotions, as well as the food industry. In addition, samples must also be dispersed in medical and biochemical laboratory applications, for example in cell analyses, blood tests or the dispersion of organisms.

Dispersers and homogenizers - design variants

Depending on the area of application, the requirements for the dispersing aggregates and therefore the properties of the dispersers can differ significantly. The biggest differences lie in...

  • ... the achievable speed,

  • ... the peripheral speed of the rotor,

  • ... the volumes to be dispersed,

  • ... the size,

  • ... and in handling.

Disposable homogenizer

Disposable homogenizers are hermetically sealed and minimize contact between the laboratory worker and the mixture to be dispersed. They have the advantage of eliminating the time-consuming cleaning process. This not only saves you time, but also virtually eliminates contamination and impurities. These homogenizers are therefore particularly suitable for very sensitive or toxic materials. In our online catalog, for example, you can obtain the IKA Ultra-Turrax Tube Drive.

Manual dispersers

Hand dispersers are ideal for small sample quantities and are therefore mainly used in laboratories. Due to their low weight, they are very ergonomic to hold and optimally disperse biochemical or medical samples at particularly high speeds. One example of a manual disperser is the X 120 from the engineering office CAT M. Zipperer.

High-performance dispersers

High-performance dispersers are ideal for larger sample quantities and are characterized by their high energy input. With high-performance dispersers, speeds of over 9000 rpm and sample volumes of up to 50 liters can be achieved. They are therefore ideal for higher viscosity mixtures. One disperser that you can purchase at MedSolut.com is the IKA T 65 digital ULTRA-TURRAX including digital speed display and a maximum speed of 9500 revolutions per minute.

Tripod disperser

Tripod dispersers are attached to a tripod and thus stabilized. They are the all-rounders among the dispersers. Sample volumes from 0.2 milliliters up to 20 liters can be mixed efficiently, and the speed range covers the entire spectrum from 2500 rpm up to 33000 rpm. At MedSolut.com you can order the dispersing drive Unidrive X 1000D from the engineering office CAT M. Zipperer GmbH.

Buy dispersers for the laboratory - manufacturers in the range at MedSolut.com

The range of laboratory equipment from MedSolut.com contains a wide range of different dispersers and currently focuses on the two brand manufacturers Ingenieurbüro CAT M. Zipperer and IKA. Both manufacturers are briefly introduced below.

IKA

The IKA Group has been in existence since 1910 and is the world market leader in most product classes. With eight locations on four continents and more than 900 employees, the manufacturer stands for development, innovation and growth. Major customers such as BASF and Bayer rely on IKA's technologies, which stand out for their high quality and functionality. With the product group Ultra Turrax product group, IKA covers a wide range of dispersing devices and enables a speed range of up to 24,000 revolutions per minute.

Engineering office CAT M. Zipperer

Since 1976, the CAT M. Zipperer engineering office has been developing customized solutions for laboratory applications. High-precision systems with high quality standards characterize the product range. At MedSolut.com you can currently choose from an extensive range of high-quality stand dispersers and manual dispersers.

Accessories for the disperser

At MedSolut.com, we also offer suitable accessories for all homogenizers. This allows you to optimally adapt your disperser to your requirements. The accessories available for a laboratory disperser include dispersing tools, stands, mixing bowls, cross clamps and knife rotors.

  • Dispersing tools: These tools complement the existing dispersing drives and are used for precise grinding and mixing of the material. Choose different tools to attach to the homogenizer so that the tool is optimally suited to the sample volume and the material to be dispersed.

  • Mixing beakers: These are used as accessories for disposable dispersers. Together with the matching lids, they ensure that work can be carried out cleanly and without contamination.

  • Cross clamps and stands : Stands in various sizes with the corresponding cross clamps are available for attaching stand devices.

  • Knife rotors and stators: For rotor-stator systems, knife rotors or stators can be purchased to replace existing systems
